What's Happening at New Heights Preschool in Sammamish
School's Out for Summer!
The school year closed with a fun family picnic at Ebright Park in Sammamish. The children enjoyed a treasure hunt, played games, ate cake, and spent time with their friends before starting a well-deserved summer break. The students received photo memory books; unique, personalized albums of their year at New Heights Preschool. Ms. Shari and Ms. Kelly thank all of the parents and students for making the inaugural year of New Heights Preschool a huge success.
Spring Has Sprung
Spring has arrived! Some of our recent learning opportunities and adventures have included learning about the ocean and taking a field trip to the Seattle Aquarium, celebrating our 100th Day of school, and going on a spring egg hunt. We are looking forward to our study of insects and bugs later this month. We will watch as caterpillars grow, form their chrysalis, and become butterflies!
We have explored the four seasons using hands-on materials, stories, art, and music. Pancake and Pajama Day was a very fun and delicious way to celebrate the letter P/p. Our annual Friendship Festival gave families a chance to gather in the evening, have their family portrait taken, create a picture frame, watch a slide show of the students at work and play, and listen as the children sang friendship songs. Our Nursery Rhyme unit gave us a chance to discover the poet in all of us as we recited and created many rhymes.
Fall Is in the Air!
The excitement of a new school and new school-year brought smiles as parents and children attended the first day of class together. With new friends, fresh crayons and play-dough, shiny-new tables and shelves, our beautiful pet fish, Alphie, and two very excited teachers, we are on our way! Our first lessons included learning about our friends and our five senses. We baked a delicious apple pie during letter A/a week. We watched as the pumpkins in the pumpkin patch grew. The leaves turned beautiful shades of yellow, orange, and red before falling from the trees and we studied spiders as they made perfect webs in the garden. Preschool families came for Pumpkin Carving Night to carve pumpkins and listen as the children sang a collection of fall songs. Feast Day was a busy day of cooking a delicious feast to share as we talked about feeling thankful. We ended the season learning about family traditions through art, decorations, music, food, gift-giving, and celebrations.
